Considerable research by our company and others has shown that some types of Network Termination Unit are prone to corrosion and failure.
The Austin Taylor NTU
Network Termination Unit is designed to reduce the lifetime cost of the
network demarcation point through enhanced reliability and improved fault
finding.
The NTU is custom designed to be more reliable than current network demarcation solutions. It also allows wiring problems to be more easily diagnosed without the requirement for a site visit. The net result is a reduction in costly engineering call-outs.
Reduced downtime has other indirect benefits in terms of minimising lost telephony revenue and avoiding the negative impact of loss of service on customer satisfaction.
Finally the NTU's unique design makes it easier, faster and safer to install. This unique combination of features and benefits make the NTU the natural choice for network operators. BT and RJ style sockets are available.
Consumer extension wiring is connected to IDC or screw contacts in the lower section of the NTU and when the cover is removed the extension wiring is isolated for test purposes.
The socket remains live allowing the fault reporting centre to talk a consumer through testing their extension wiring. This can help eliminated unnecessary and costly engineering call-outs.
When the lower cover is replaced, magnetically activated switches connect the consumer extension wiring to the network.
The top cover prevents consumer access to the network termination and mastering components.
The cable entry knockouts in the lower part of the base are easily removed from the outside reducing the likelihood of consumers removing the installer access cover.
The NTU is designed for fast / safe installation. The network termination point uses fast efficient IDC connections in place of slower, labour intensive screw terminals.
As all the components are located in the backbox, cable routing and termination is made much easier.. The elimination of cable slack prevents the common problem of loops of wire being trapped when the installer cover is replaced.
The potentially dangerous practice of screwdriver termination on a handheld unit is replaced by safe IDC termination onto a fixed base unit.
Full flexibility of cable entry is provided by knockouts in the top, bottom, sides and rear of the backbox. The clip-in PCB is field replaceable for maintenance purposes.
